Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau Nursing School was created as a Nursing school according to 4th December 1953 Decree and ran from 1954-55 as a Technical Sanitary Assistant (TSA) school until TSA studies were incorporated into university studies.

It was then transformed into a University School as a result of the approval of Royal Decree 2128/1977 of 23rd July 1977, regarding the “integration to University of current TSA schools as University Nursing Schools, Royal Decree 796/1978 of 17thFebruary 1978” according to which the conversion of Barcelona’s Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau Technical Sanitary Assistant School into a University Nursing School is approved and affiliated to Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).

From that moment, Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau Nursing School was defined as a University centre, administratively attached to Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and to UAB academically, where studies to obtain the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and studies on other postgraduate disciplines aimed at the training of specialists are taught.

According to Decree 298/1986 of 25th September, of the Generalitat de Catalunya, of regime regulations and public university of higher education facilities ascription, dated 8th March 1990, the academic collaboration agreement among Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau as a body that owns the centre is signed.

UNS's Board, at 22nd December 1997 meeting, agreed to the University Nursing School Regulation and its Reorganization model.

In year 2000, the evaluation of Nursing degree “Evaluation Process of University Quality System in Catalonia, report 2000” was conducted, and in 2006 the evaluation of all the School’s own degrees was carried out.

In academic year 2004/05, the 50th anniversary of the School was celebrated with an extended program that, in addition to scientific activities, presented also a weekly radio program that lasted for a whole year in Radio Salut, and the editing of a commemorative book.

In academic year 2009/10, studies on the new Nursing Diploma begin. Verified by the College Board dated 10th June 2009, authorised by the responsible department of universities of Catalunya’s government and published in the BOE 285 dated 27thNovember 2012
